One-Dimensional Pseudo-Homo-geneous Packed-Bed Reactor Modeling: II. Energy Equation and Effective Thermal Conductivity
A corresponding paper by the authors explored the chemical species equation and effective diffusivity correlations for a one-dimensional pseudo-homogeneous packed-bed reactor model useful for calibration of chemical kinetics. This paper expands on the formulation of this model by describing the energy equation and its applicability depending on reactor conditions. Included is a review and parametric study involving effective thermal conductivity correlations that analyzes the different choices available. The combined result of these review efforts is the description of a model that should be used prior to experimentation. In particular, exploration of the model along with calculation of the associated nondimensional parameters using literature-derived kinetics before beginning laboratory efforts will help ensure the correct space velocities and bed lengths that generate chemical kinetics only as a function of chemical constituents and not reactor design.
