Continuous crystallizers with jet pump driven by recirculated mother solution in production of struvite
Struvite was continuously crystd. in 2 DTM type crystallizers with jet pump driven by recirculated mother liq. at a const. temp. 298 K, from dild. aq. solns. contg. 0.20 or 1.0% by mass of phosphate(V) ions. Effect of pH (9-11) and mean residence time of suspension in the crystallizer (900-3600 s) on the quality of crystals and process kinetics was studied. Struvite crystals were 4-26 mu m in size. The linear growth rate of the crystals varied from 241.10(-9) 7.68.10(-9) m/s, while the nucleation rate changed from 8.9.10(7) to 1.8.10(10) 1/(s.m(3)) depending on the process parameter values and crystallizer type. Cryst. products of higher quality were produced in a DTM crystallizer with a jet pump generating descending flow of suspension in the mixing chamber.
