Enhancing the lifetime of field-emission organic light-emitting diodes using a cavity structure
Extended lifetime and highly uniform field-emission organic light-emitting diodes (FE-OLEDs) using a cavity structure are first proposed. The inorganic phosphor used to emit light in a field-emission diode (FED) was replaced with organic electroluminescent (EL) light-emitting layers in the FE-OLED. The cavity structure in the FE-OLED increased luminance and led a sharp EL spectrum and color purity. The Al layer facing the carbon nanotube (CNT) protects the emitting layer (EML) from high-energy electron bombardment and allows the electrons to disperse evenly in the EML The FE-OLED with a cavity structure has five times the lifetime of the conventional FE-OLED, and can satisfy lighting demands with uniform luminance from large areas.
