2021, Science of the Total EnvironmentCitation Excerpt :Newcombe and Drikas, 1997; Bjelopavlic et al., 1999; Moreno-Castilla, 2004; Newcombe, 2006). If repulsive electrostatic interactions predominate among the adsorption participants, the repulsion may be shielded by the added salt, thus the adsorption efficiency increases (Bjelopavlic et al., 1999). Some studies have also confirmed that higher ionic strength led to a higher adsorption efficiency of organic substances because of the changes in their chemical and structural properties.
Adsorption of algal organic matter on activated carbons from alternative sources: Influence of physico-chemical parameters
2021, Journal of Water Process EngineeringCitation Excerpt :For instance, ZP values of DE varied from −39.1 mV at pH 6 to −65.1 mV at pH 9. Then, AOM and the four GACs showed negative charges in the pH range studied resulting in repulsive electrostatic interactions which difficult the adsorption process [30]. The nonparametric Spearman analysis was performed to check the correlation between the AOM removal and PZ values of each GAC.
